Church In Real Life
3rd Annual Chili Bowl
Start digging up your chili recipes for this year’s 3rd Annual Chili Bowl. On Sunday, October 13th, following the church service, we will feast on chili and judge one another in the process.
Chili Bowl 2024
As the date approaches, you will all have an opportunity to enter your chili for the competition, and have the chance of a life time: to win the 2024 Chili Bowl. Be creative and come up with a name for your chili (e.g.: Afterburn, Fire In The Hole, Lake Of Fire). You’re not a chili chef? No problem. Make whatever chili-themed meal you like. If you call it chili, we will judge it!
Sunday, October 13th
This year’s winner will have their name engraved on the legendary Grace Hill Chili Bowl - to be proudly displayed in the Grace Hill trophy case for all to be amazed!
Towards Another 181
On August 31st we celebrated God’s faithfulness proclaiming the name of Jesus for 181 years. God is not finished and neither is Grace Hill. We are looking ahead with great expectation and ambition to the next 181 years.
We have a Godly ambition to cultivate a community where meaningful membership goes beyond mere affiliation, where doctrinal clarity guides our faith, where deep relationships foster love and understanding, and where a missional mindset drives us toward Gospel maturity and the multiplication of disciples for the glory of Jesus.
Meaningful Membership
Moving beyond simply joining a club; it's about true commitment and connection.
Doctrinal Clarity
Understanding what we believe and why we believe it.
Deep Relationships
Building genuine relationships so we can know one another and love one another.
Missional Mindset
Growing in the Gospel, aiming for spiritual maturity, and multiplying disciples.
We remain excited for what God is doing in Merton and beyond. It is with great joy that we are leaning into the work of the Spirit to make the name of Jesus known for many years to come!
Sing A New Song
This Sunday our music team will be introducing a new song for us to proclaim. Listen, watch and sing along over the next couple days in order to prepare for our time together on Sunday morning. Thanks for making Sunday mornings a priority to be with God’s people! This is one of the many marks of our unity in the Gospel of Jesus. See you Sunday morning!
We Will Feast in the House of Zion
Written by Keith & Kristyn Getty, Sandra McCracken
Chorus
We will feast in the house of Zion
We will sing with our hearts restored
He has done great things, we will say together
We will feast and weep no more
Verse 1
We will not be burned by the fire, He is the Lord our God
We are not consumed by the flood, upheld protected gathered up
Verse 2
In the dark of night before the dawn, my soul, be not afraid
For the promised morning, oh how long, oh God of Jacob, be my strength
Verse 3
Every vow we’ve broken and betrayed, You are the faithful one
And from the garden to the grave, bind us together, bring shalom
Let’s Talk
Sunday, September 8th - 6-8pm
The church is like a body with many members. Membership in the local church is the logical implication of membership in the global Church, which comes only through faith in Jesus Christ, publicly demonstrated through baptism. Our lives are connected. We need one another. Church membership is our way of ensuring everyone who belongs to our congregation enjoys the benefits and privileges of being Grace Hill Church.
One Meeting You Won’t Want To Miss
If you’re a member of Grace Hill Church, we want you to save the date for our next member meeting, to be held on Sunday, September 8th from 6-8pm. Come ready to hear some important updates, highlight God’s grace as we see Him at work, affirm a few improvements, and enjoy all the custard you can eat!
September Youth Night
Our next youth night will be Saturday, September 14th from 4-8pm at the Hagfors' home. We will plan on having a bonfire for cooking food and smores, playing yard games, and continuing our study in the Sermon on the Mount.
Saturday, September 14th | 4-8pm
We currently meet once a month to learn and grow. Every meeting is different. Sometimes it's a party. Sometimes it's a service project. Often we have deep theological conversations. 7th-12th graders from inside and outside the church are welcome to join.
181 Years
In the providence of God, nine individuals came to the Wisconsin Territory with a desire to build on new land claims in the Town of Warren (now the Village of Merton). These individuals also came with a desire to worship their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And so, on August 31, 1843, a local church was formed. Their first convert was baptized 18 months later in the Bark River.
Thanks For Celebrating With Us!
A church building was built in 1855, which was used for worship until 2009 when a new building was built on 13 acres of farmland on the south edge of the Village. Originally named Warren Baptist Church and then for many years First Baptist Church of Merton, our name is now Grace Hill Church.
Three Names, One Gospel Message
One consistent theme throughout its long history has been a commitment to preserve and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are grateful to God for how He has kept His people faithful to the Gospel in the past, and we earnestly desire for God to continue that work in His people here in Merton and beyond for the Glory of His great name.
Rethinking Retirement
Starting Wednesday, September 25th, Tony will begin leading a mid-week Bible study and prayer meeting for those who have entered into their retirement years. Some of you have been living through this season for quite some time. Some of you have just recently arrived. We want to use this time to love and care for one another while turning to the Scriptures and prayer.
Wednesdays @ 9am
Many of you have faithfully served for years, and some have outlasted many pastors. It is our conviction to plan for the church’s future, but it is also necessary not to neglect those who have helped maintain it. Come join your fellow brothers and sisters as we rethink retirement one Wednesday at a time.
Meeting at Grace Hill Church
Light refreshments with coffee and tea will be provided. Feel free to bring a snack to share. Please talk with Tony if you have any questions.
Show Them Jesus
The Teaching Team at Grace Hill endeavors to accurately, systematically, and thoroughly teach God's Word, through private discipleship, public teaching, and preaching, in order to equip men, women and children for growth toward Godly maturity, and to prepare leaders for effective ministry roles and responsibilities.
Teaching The Good News Of Jesus
The objective is not to help one another accumulate information. We desire Gospel transformation. As we teach, our hope is to point one another to the glorious, majestic, holy one, Jesus Christ. God’s Word is deep and we consider it great joy to return to His Word every week to proclaim the name of the greatest one who ever lived.
“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.”
James 3:1
Please pray for the members of this team as they prepare during the week, and as they handle God’s Word in their individual teaching contexts.
Fire On The Hill
Last chance to come roast some marshmallows and engage in a conversation about the doctrines of grace this summer. Next Wednesday we will conclude our three month study through what is often referred to as the five points of Calvinism, encapsulated in the acronym T.U.L.I.P., and the heart of Reformed Protestant Theology.
Wednesday @ 7pm
What is the history behind these historic theological beliefs? Where does Scripture speak to God’s sovereignty, man’s depravity, and Christ’s particular redemption? How should these doctrines encourage evangelism, missions and worship? And, Why do these beliefs matter for you and how you live your daily lives?
